The Pocatello Police Department released the name of the knife-wielding man who was fatally shot by Blackfoot police last week.

Jacob T. Eldridge, 24, was fatally shot after he stabbed a 20-year-old woman he was holding against her will, according to a written statement released by the Pocatello Police Department on Tuesday. The shooting took place in the 1200 block of South Broadway Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. Friday.

The Pocatello Police is the agency investigating the incident as part of the East Idaho Critical Incident Team — a multi-law enforcement agency task force that investigates incidents in which police fire their weapons to determine if officers acted properly.

Officers then used lethal force and fired their weapons to stop Eldridge from further injuring the victim, according to the statement released by Pocatello police. Authorities have not released which officers discharged their firearms or how many shots were fired.

Eldridge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female stabbing victim, whose name has not been released, was transported via ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
